I always wanted to create my own animations so that I have more freedom as a filmmaker. It gives me more control about the visuals,  how I tell a story to a viewer, or how I create a transition between 2 scenes.

I have the most fun brainstorming about it and how I could make it work. My intention with using animation in my films is to keep a steady flow without losing the context of the movie. It is always extremely satisfying and addicting when it all comes together in the end.

MOTION GRAPHICS

PROJECT: TRAVEL VIDEO - SHANGHAI 2018: 2ND WEEKEND

This is an intro I made for one of my personal travel video projects. I wanted to start off by giving the viewer an illustration of the sometimes dark and neon like alleys of Shanghai. I saw those alot when I was in Shanghai that weekend and so this was only fitting to use this as a theme for the video.

PROJECT: COMMERCIAL - COERT'S DS

This is a short bit coming from the commercial I made for introducing the 3D printed glasses called the DS. Because the product was still very new at that time, we didn’t had many model variation available. The solution for that is making an animation, showing the customization options the DS has for the customer.

PROJECT: INSTA STORY - Y THE WAIT

Y the wait wanted a redesign of their Instagram Stories where they release adverts and announce their new partners. In this case they had Baskin Robbins as their new partner. I created a fast Insta story that is keeping your attention and delivers directly the information to the viewer.

PROJECTS: TRAVEL VIDEO - SHANGHAI 2019: 1ST AND 2ND WEEKEND

Because this was the second time I went to Shanghai I only wanted to film the details that are new to me. The problem is with filming only the details is that you have many different kinds of scenes and scenarios that are not really connected to each other. That’s why I came up with creating custom transitions that could connect to two totally different scenes with each other. I searched for random objects within the scene where I could create transitions with by using masking or quick zoom outs techniques.

PROJECTS: PERSONAL PROJECT - THE SHANGHAI BUND DAY & NIGHT TRANSITION

The bund in Shanghai is a beautiful boulevard, but it really shines in the night. I wanted to capture the day and night cycle and create a dynamic wallpaper from it. A timelaps wasn’t possible because this would take too much time. Instead I made a photo in daytime of the Bund on a specific place, and made another photo on the same exact place in the night. By combining these two photo’s with a mask animation, I was able to simulate a day and night cycle, which I eventually converted as a dynamic wallpaper.

3D MOTION TRACKING

VARIOUS PROJECTS

Instead of using black backgrounds with text in the middle, I prefer to blend in text within a scene so that the flow of the video doesn’t get disturbed. Below you can see a few examples from 3D motion tracked text from a various set of projects.

PROJECT: DESIGN ASSIGNMENT - CLEANING ROBOT

One of my bachelor team projects was developing a fully automatic cleaning robot for cleaning the atrium of a retirement home. I was responsible for the drive mechanism of the robot and for the movie presentation with 3D animations. The video explains the concept of the cleaning robot and here you can see 2 short bits of it.
