Kevin Otten

I always wanted to create my own animations so that I have more freedom as a filmmaker. It gives me more control about the visuals,  how I tell a story to a viewer, or how I create a transition between two scenes.

I have the most fun while brainstorming these and how I could make it work. My intention with using animation in my films is to keep a steady flow without losing the context of the movie. It is satisfying and addicting when it all comes together in the end.

PROJECT: TRAVEL VIDEO
SHANGHAI 2018: 2ND WEEKEND

I wanted to start my trailer by giving the viewer a sense of Shanghai by night. I used a neon effect to grab that attention right away.

PROJECT: COMMERCIAL
COERT'S DS

This is a scene of a promo video for an opticien. There were no actual product models available to film. To be able to showcase the customization options, an animation scene was the best and most fun solution.

PROJECT: INSTA STORY - Y THE WAIT

Y the wait wanted a redesign of their Instagram Stories where they release adverts and announce their new partners. In this case they wanted to introduce Baskin Robbins as their new partner. I created a Instagram story to be informative, attention grabbing and showing playful details to match with Baskin Robbins.

PROJECTS: TRAVEL VIDEO - SHANGHAI 2019: 1ST AND 2ND WEEKEND

Because the scenes are so diverse in this travel video series, I created custom transitions to connect the scenes I searched for random objects within the scene where I could create transitions with by using masking or quick zoom outs techniques.

Software: Final Cut Pro and Motion.

PROJECTS: PERSONAL PROJECT - THE SHANGHAI BUND DAY & NIGHT TRANSITION

The bund in Shanghai is a beautiful boulevard, but it really shines in the night. I wanted to capture the day and night cycle and create a dynamic wallpaper. A time lapse wasn’t possible because of the time it would take. Instead, I made a photo at daytime and made another photo at the same place at night. By combining these two photo’s with a mask animation, I was able to simulate a day and night cycle, which I eventually converted as a dynamic wallpaper.

3D MOTION TRACKING

VARIOUS PROJECTS

To not disturb the flow of the video, you have to come up with creative solution. One solution is to blend titles and other texts within the scene. Below you can see a few examples of 3D motion tracked text.
